Nadeau To Hold Roundtable on Short-Term Family Housing Construction Progress

A recent news story finds potential delays and mismanagement in shelter construction for Wards 7 and 8

WASHINGTON – In light of a recent news story in the Washington City Paper that casts doubt on the existing construction timeline for short-term family housing in Wards 7 and 8, Ward 1 D.C. Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau will hold a public roundtable to get answers on potential construction delays and management issues. She will also use the hearing to examine construction progress in other wards where shelters are in various stages of planning and construction.

The hearing will be a joint roundtable by the Committee on Human Services, which has oversight of homelessness issues and is chaired by Nadeau, and the Committee on Transportation and the Environment, which has oversight of the Department of General Services and is chaired by Councilmember Mary Cheh.

“We have made a promise to our families experiencing homelessness that we will provide safe, dignified housing for them when they most need it,” said Councilmember Nadeau. “If there are, in fact, going to be delays to the delivery of this housing, the public deserves to know.”
