Embracing the excitement surrounding the FIFA World Cup, 16 embassies out of the 32 participating in this year’s World Cup have confirmed.  The 16 teams will play a 40-game tournament in a 7-vs-7 format, parallel to the FIFA World Cup and in the spirit of FIFA’s Fair Play.

“This soccer event will highlight the international and multicultural spirit of Washington, DC on a recreation level like it’s never been done before,” said DPR Director Keith A. Anderson.

The opening ceremony was held Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Jelleff Recreation Center at 3:30 p.m. which included the embassies participating in a parade of flag.  The game of the evening was a competitive match Russia and Uruguay.  Russia was victorious by the score of 4 to 3.
