Temporary Single Lane Closures for South Capitol Street Corridor Project
(Washington, DC)—The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close single lanes and shoulders on the following roadways to perform testing and pre-construction activities for the South Capitol Street Corridor Project.
The following single lane, ramp, and shoulder closures will be in place daily from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday, June 25, 2018, through Saturday, June 30, 2018, weather permitting:
South Capitol Street, SE/SW between South of Firth Sterling Avenue, SE to Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge
South Capitol Street, SW southbound between Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge and Suitland Parkway, SE
Potomac Avenue, SW eastbound at South Capitol Street, SW
Anacostia Drive Access Road northbound between Howard Road, SE and Anacostia Drive
Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, SE northbound at Howard Road, SE
I 295 southbound between Howard Road, SE and Firth Sterling Avenue, SE
Firth Sterling Avenue, SE between South Capitol Street, SE and Suitland Parkway, SE
Howard Road, SE between Firth Sterling Avenue, SE and Suitland Parkway, SE
Suitland Parkway, SE between Firth Sterling Avenue, SE and South Capitol Street, SE
The following single lane, ramp, and shoulder closures will be in place nightly from9:00 pm to 5.00 am, Sunday, June 24, 2018, through Thursday, June 28, 2018, weather permitting:
I 295 southbound between Howard Road, SE and Firth Sterling Avenue, SE
South Capitol Street, SE/SW between South of Firth Sterling Avenue, SE to Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge
R Street, SW, Half Street, SW, Potomac Avenue, SW and South Capitol Street, SW/SE trucks will have intermittent closures to allow for transporting material for bridge construction
The following ramps will be closed permanently effective Monday, June 25, 2018:
Ramp from Anacostia Drive southbound to South Capitol Street, SW
Ramp from South Capitol Street, SE northbound to Anacostia Drive
These closures are required for pre-construction work associated with the South Capitol Street Corridor Project and the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge Replacement which calls for the replacement of the 68-year-old bridge and reconstruction of the Suitland Parkway/I-295 interchange.
Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel in these areas, to anticipate moderate delays, and to be mindful construction personnel.
