SETTLEMENT REACHED on ST. THOMAS’ PARISH DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

[WASHINGTON, DC. July 5, 2018] Historic St. Thomas’ Parish and CAS Riegler have reached a settlement with Dupont Circle Citizens Association (DCCA), the area’s civic and residential organization, and Church Street Neighbors (CSN), a group of concerned neighbors of St. Thomas’. This ends a dispute over a 51-unit residential building and new church on the original site of St. Thomas’ 1891 church.

The settlement includes the developer’s commitment to make some of the project’s units more deeply affordable than required by law and a contribution towards one or more nonprofits selected by DCCA that are devoted to assisting those who are or are at risk of becoming homeless. In exchange for the concessions from CAS Riegler and St. Thomas’ Parish, Dupont Circle Citizens Association and Church Street Neighbors agree to end their opposition to the size of the residential portion of the project.

Founded in 1922 Dupont Circle Citizens Association was established to promote and protect the interests of the residents of Dupont Circle. “DCCA is pleased that this agreement provides for more affordable housing in our neighborhood than required by law and will help, along with the donation, to address serious needs in Dupont Circle,” said Glenn Engelmann, Vice President of DCCA.

The Rev. Alex Dyer, Priest in Charge at St. Thomas’ Parish remarked, “I’m delighted we found solutions that benefit our neighborhood and the wider community. My hope is we can continue to all take steps to work together in the future and this is the beginning of a new relationship with some of our neighbors. We all share this neighborhood and share many mutual interests.”

All the parties are pleased that an amicable resolution has been reached which will allow the neighborhood to move forward.
