to Promote Early Literacy

(Washington, D.C.) – The DC Public Library has been working with D.C. United for almost two years promoting the Sing, Talk and Read campaign. Recently, D.C. United players created a singalong video promoting early literacy that parents and children can have fun with together.

In the video, D.C. United players from different nationalities sing the words to the familiar children’s song “Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” in their native language while dancing to the steps. These sorts of singing activities show parents and caregivers how fun and easy singing, talking and reading with their children can be.

The Sing Talk and Read DC program is a citywide initiative based on research showing that conversations, singing and interactions between parents/caregivers and children from birth build a foundation for learning.

D.C. United supports a variety of programs and initiatives focused on health & wellness and youth soccer. D.C. United players and their mascot “Talon” have made appearances at family-friendly events at libraries throughout the city such as last year’s Sing, Talk & Read Family Festival and at a recent World Cup Watch party.
