Media Contacts Terry Owens Lauren Stephens First Phase of the I-295/Malcolm X Avenue SE Interchange Improvement Project to Begin on September 4(Washington DC) – The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will begin construction on the I-295/Malcolm X Interchange Improvement Project on or aboutSeptember 4, 2018, weather permitting. The multiple phases of this project include the reconstruction of the I-295 interchange with Malcolm X Avenue SE, including modified ramps and a new access roadway to the St. Elizabeth’s West Campus. The planned improvements will be made between Firth Sterling Avenue SE, on the north, and the South Capitol Street/Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue SE intersection to the south. The project will provide transportation improvements to serve the proposed Department of Homeland Security headquarters consolidation on the St. Elizabeth’s West Campus. The work will include temporary lane closures and construction-related detours that will impact traffic. The work zone will shift in various phases and will be marked with the appropriate directional signage. Flaggers will be in place where appropriate to guide motorists around the work zone. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are urged to stay alert and to use caution when traveling through the work zone. DDOT will continue to inform the public of lane closures and changes as they occur. ### |
