Update: Capitol Hill Community Foundation coordinating community donations for Arthur Capper seniors
Following the fire last night at Arthur Capper Senior Building, about 160 senior residents were displaced from their homes. In nearly every case, these seniors have lost all of their belongings.
There has been a strong outpouring of support from the community to help these seniors rebuild after this tragic fire. The Capitol Hill Community Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit, has teamed up to help administer the fund started by Van Ness Parent Teacher Organization last night. One hundred percent of funds collected will be distributed directly to residents displaced by the fire – interested community members can donate here:
Following tragic fires at both Frager’s Hardware and Eastern Market, the Capital Hill Community Foundation stepped in to help manage donations to those directly affected. The fund will allow the seniors to purchase whatever they need most in the coming days as they work with city agencies to rebuild their lives.
The Capitol Hill Community Foundation is located at 419 East Capitol Street, S.E. Washington, D.C. 20003
