Library Seeking Local Veteran Stories
(Washington, D.C.) – DC Veterans, join the DC Public Library for a day of history, memories and storytelling Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Dorothy I. Height/Benning Neighborhood Library.
In support of the Library of Congress’s Veterans History Project, the Library is hoping to help collect the stories from veterans that are not always included in history books. The day-long event will feature:
- 10:00 a.m. Share your story with trained interviews from the Library of Congress Veterans History Project.
- 11:00 a.m. Learn how to digitize and preserve photos and letters with the Library’s Memory Lab.
- 2:00 p.m. Learn how to tell your story in the Veterans Writing Workshop.
- 4:00 p.m. Listen to firsthand accounts of local veterans who participated in the Veterans History Project.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of 1968, the Library is extending a special invitation to long-time District residents who served in the Vietnam War to help us remember the changes of the late 1960’s here in DC and around the world.
The Dorothy I. Height/Benning Neighborhood Library is located at 3935 Benning Road NE. Veterans interested in being interviewed should email David Quick at David.Quick2@dc.gov to reserve a time.
