Metro Holiday Service Information 2018

Metrorail will remain open until 2 a.m. on New Year’s Eve (early New Year’s Day) for the benefit of holiday revelers.

*In the event of a federal government shutdown, Metro will continue to operate on a normal schedule.

Below is a summary of Metrorail, Metrobus and MetroAccess service during the holiday season.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

Monday, December 24
Christmas Eve 
  • Metrorail system will operate 5 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. on a regular weekday schedule
  • Metrobus will operate on a regular schedule
  • MetroAccess subscription trips have been cancelled
  • Regular fares and parking fees will be in effect
  • No scheduled track work
Tuesday, December 25
Christmas Day 
  • Metrorail system will operate 8 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. on a Sunday schedule
  • Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule
  • MetroAccess subscription trips have been cancelled
  • Off-peak fares will be in effect and parking will be free at all Metro-operated facilities
  • No scheduled track work

New Years Eve and New Years Day

Monday, December 31
New Year’s Eve
  • Metrorail system will open at 5 a.m. with special late night service until 2 a.m.(early New Year’s Day) on a regular weekday schedule
  • Metrobus will operate on a regular schedule
  • MetroAccess subscription trips have been cancelled
  • Regular fares and parking fees will be in effect
  • No scheduled track work
Tuesday, January 1
New Year’s Day 
  • Metrorail system will operate 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. on a Sunday schedule
  • Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule
  • MetroAccess subscription trips have been cancelled
  • Off-peak fares will be in effect and parking will be free at all Metro-operated facilities
  • No scheduled track work

MetroAccess customers who’s holiday subscription trips have been cancelled should use the online booking site or call 301-562-5360 option 2 to make or change a reservation.

Last train departure times vary by station. Customers can check last train times on New Year’s Eve by visiting a station’s webpage and adding two and a half hours to the regular last train time.
