Councilmember Allen celebrates opening of The Fields at RFK, replacing asphalt with much needed field space

Tomorrow, Councilmember Charles Allen (Ward 6) will join Mayor Muriel Bowser, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, DC United’s Wayne Rooney, and leaders from Events DC to cut the ribbon on The Fields at RFK, 27 acres of lined fields, walking paths, restrooms and playground space complete with shade.

“For nearly a decade, I’ve been working with neighbors to turn the empty RFK parking lots into usable park and field space. These fields are a welcome addition to Hill East and the District. Park space, playgrounds, fields, and access to the Anacostia River – these are community amenities that bring us together as neighbors and make the District such a special place to call home,” said Councilmember Allen. “I want to add my congratulations to Events DC on a great project and a great selection in Capitol Riverside Youth Sports Park as the choice to operate the park.”

The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place beginning around 11 am. From 12:30 to 3 pm, there will be a wide-range of activities, including kickball, flag football, lawn games, and more, as well as live music, complimentary food trucks, a beer garden and more. The Hill Rag has the full run-down.
