A few scenes from the Palisades Citizens Association’s 53rd annual Fourth of July Parade today under the midday sun: We didn’t see any horses or the Safeway truck this year — both crowd favorites in the past — but #DontMuteDC, go-go, the DC flag and calls for statehood were all highly visible. (There was also a trio who marched in support of retrocession to Maryland.) Among the many local politicians on hand along MacArthur Boulevard NW were at-large DC Council member Elissa Silverman, who danced along the route; Ward 3 Council member Mary Cheh, who once again handed out copies of the Constitution; and Ward 4 Council member Brandon Todd, who took time to pose for a selfie at the request of some onlookers. National politics entered the frame in a couple of instances: a group backing Pete Buttigieg — the only Democratic presidential campaign to participate in the parade — drew a favorable response from the crowd, while a contingent expressing support for President Donald Trump elicited boos and some heckling along sections of the route.

These pictures make me want to go as no others of this event ever have.
Thanks!
