(Washington, D.C.) – Over the last seven years, what started as a DC Public Library program with 50 backpacks has grown into one of the largest back-to-school events east of the Anacostia River. Now thousands of Ward 8 residents attend the Bellevue Back-to-School Bash which features educational resources, health screenings and a giveaway of backpacks with school supplies. The event has even attracted the attention and support of the Miss USA Pageant.
The 7th annual Bellevue Back-to-School Bash is a block party that will include more than 20 community vendors, musical performances by the band SUTTLE (formerly known as Suttle Thoughts), free face painting, caricature art, raffles and prizes. It also raises awareness of how the Library’s staff and resources can help students be successful in the new school year.
The Bellevue Back-to-School Bash is organized by the DC Public Library, Community of Hope, Covenant Baptist UCC and the Metropolitan Police Department’s Beat the Streets initiative.
