LinkLinks Washington Post: If Washington picks Red Tails, Tuskegee Airmen nonprofit wants to make sure it’s done right By Editor On Jul 16, 2020 Last updated Jul 16, 2020 20 Share In May 2013, D.C. Council member David Grosso (I-At Large) introduced a resolution urging Washington’s NFL team to change its “derogatory, racist name” to the Red Tails in honor of the Tuskegee Airmen, the pioneering group of African Americans who broke the color barrier during World War II and were so nicknamed for the distinctive red paint they applied to the tails of their P-51 fighter units. Months later, a burgundy and gold Red Tails logo won second-place in a national design contest to rebrand the Redskins. 20 Share FacebookTwitterReddItWhatsAppEmailPrint
