Washington Post: D.C. committee recommends stripping the names of Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Francis Scott Key and others from city government buildings

A committee reporting to D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser has recommended renaming dozens of public schools, parks and government buildings in the nation’s capital, after studying the historical namesakes’ connections to slavery and oppression.

    Who is on this DC committee making these recommendations? What are their names?

    Makes me sad, angry, upset that so many historical figures are being targeted. Have DC Mayor & her one-sided committee read history re:these men OR are they basing their removals, name changes, etc on what they want to believe about these people. These men were human, had flaws, but to try to wipe them out of our history us wrong. This picking & choosing historical figures like Franklin, Bell, Key, etc. is wrong. What is she & her illustrious committee basing these on? Is she going to remove all of books related to these men: history books, historical novels, etc just to satisfy particular opinions. I understand removal of Confederate items that may offend. But this blanket removal, changes, etc by a mayor who someday will no longer be in office is wrong. To think that I pay IRS taxes every year for this kind of process to take place is so wrong. Read your history-good things happened along with bad. But deleting them is not doing future generations of any color any favors.
