LinkLinksOpinion Chris Richards in The Post: In the streets and online, go-go’s drumbeat for social change remains a constant By Editor On Sep 19, 2020 Last updated Sep 19, 2020 12 Share On Tuesday night, the local go-go group Pure Elegance assembled on an outdoor stage in Southeast D.C. — or, for those quarantining at home, on a glowing computer screen — for a live-streamed concert designed to mobilize the crowd, physically and politically. The band opened its set with “You Can’t Mute Us,” a percussive new plea for D.C. statehood that also condemns police brutality, gun violence, income inequality and Black displacement resulting from gentrification. The lyrics encouraged listeners to vote. The drums demanded that they dance. 12 Share FacebookTwitterReddItWhatsAppEmailPrint
