Press Release: DowntownDC BID Opens Warming Center for Individuals Experiencing Homelessness

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with the Department of Human Services (DHS) is offering unsheltered residents a safe, warm space place to be during the cold weather months at the Downtown Day Services Center (The Center). The warming center is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The Center is located at 1313 New York Avenue, NW. Restrooms, water, and snacks will be provided during the site’s hours of operation.
To ensure proper social distancing, Center capacity is limited to 50 people daily and entry is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. District residents experiencing homelessness in need of assistance, warming items, and transportation to shelter during the cold weather months may call the Shelter Hotline (202-399-7093 or 311).
Additionally, The Center’s warming site will be open on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2020 and New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2021 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Christmas Day meal service will be provided to individuals experiencing homelessness outside The Center from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Christmas Day meals are being provided by the restaurant Medium Rare.
The warming site will be operational through Monday, March 31, 2021.
