Years in the making, the new Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge opened on Labor Day to pedestrians, cyclists and runners in a preview of this morning’s dedication ceremony. Later in the week, motorists will transition onto the new bridge as transportation officials phase out — and ultimately remove — the aging span alongside the iconic new bridge.
