Press Release: DC Public Library Begins Sunday and Holiday Hours

(Washington, D.C.) – Beginning September 12, the DC Public Library will continue its service expansion by offering Sunday and holiday hours at eight locations.

One Library location in each ward will be on Sundays, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. They are:

Anacostia (Ward 8)
1800 Good Hope Road SE

Dorothy Height/Benning (Ward 7)
3935 Benning Road NE

Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library (Ward 2)
901 G St. NW

Mount Pleasant (Ward 1)
3160 16th St. NW

Petworth (Ward 4)
4200 Kansas Ave. NW

Southwest (Ward 6)
901 Wesley Place SW

Tenley-Friendship (Ward 3)
4450 Wisconsin Ave. NW

Woodridge (Ward 5)
1801 Hamlin Street NE

The schedule at these locations will be:
Sunday: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Monday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tuesday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Wednesday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Thursday: noon to 8 p.m.
Friday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

In addition, these locations will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on select holidays starting on Indigenous People’s Day, Monday, October 11.

Sunday hours will begin at all remaining Library locations on October 17. The Library’s operating schedule and location addresses can be found online at dclibrary.org/hours-locations or by calling 311.

    Why are Libraries open on Indigenous People’s Day? Will they be open on Thanksgiving? Christmas? New Year? Seems disrespectful.
