Press Release: Mayor Bowser and DC Health Extend Pop-Up Vaccine Clinics for Children 5-11 Years Old

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser and DC Health, led my Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt, announced an extension of the District-operated vaccine clinics for children 5-11 years old. These are walk-up sites where parents and guardians can bring their children to receive the pediatric Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
DC Health has added additional clinics for children who need their first dose and has also released the schedule for second-dose clinics for families whose children already received their first dose. Like the Pfizer vaccine for individuals 12 and older, the second dose of the pediatric vaccine is administered approximately three weeks after the first dose. The second dose clinics begin on Friday, November 26. Families are asked to take their child to the same site where they received their first dose and are reminded to bring their child’s vaccination card to the second-dose clinic.
The second-dose clinics are only open to families whose child needs a second dose; supplies at each site will be limited based on the number of children who received first doses at that clinic three weeks prior. First doses will not be supplied at the second-dose clinics. However, families with children who need a second dose will not be turned away from a second-dose clinic even if it is not the same site where they received the first dose.
Parents who are unable to bring their child to a vaccine clinic have the option to print and sign a form allowing a trusted family member to accompany their child to the pop-up vaccine clinics; these forms are available at vaccinated.dc.gov. Community groups looking to connect with local vaccine providers to create pop-up vaccine clinics can do so through vaccineexchange.dc.gov.
