Washington Post: Wheels of derailed Metro car had moved far beyond agency’s safety limits, NTSB investigation shows

The wheels of a Metro car that derailed, prompting a federal investigation and the suspension of more than half of Metro’s fleet, had moved two inches apart from one another, according to preliminary findings released Wednesday by the National Transportation Safety Board. Metro deems wheels that move more than one-sixteenth of an inch to be unsafe.
