Washington Post Editorial Board: D.C. police wanted to fire 24 officers for criminal offenses. Why are 21 still on duty?

Between 2009 and 2019, the disciplinary division of the D.C. police department sought to fire 24 police officers after its internal affairs division investigated allegations of criminal misconduct against them. Among the cases: an officer accused of threatening sex workers with his gun and demanding sex, an officer who confessed to punching his wife so hard he fractured a bone around her eye socket; an officer who allegedly ran over the mother of his child with his Chevy Tahoe. In all but three of the 24 cases, the officers today remain on duty after a panel of high-ranking officers ruled against the terminations.
