Greer Gillis Confirmed as DC PSC Commissioner

(Washington, D.C.) Greer Gillis was confirmed as the new Commissioner for the Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia effective December 18, 2018 for a term ending June 30, 2022. Greer Gillis was nominated by Mayor Muriel A. Bowser and confirmed by the DC Council.

“I want to thank Mayor Muriel Bowser for this opportunity to continue to serve the District of Columbia,” stated Commissioner Gillis. “I look forward to working with Commissioners Phillips and Beverly, and the Commission staff to move forward those initiatives that will better position the District of Columbia to be more resilient through the use of renewable energy resources as well as provide reliable energy to all of the residents and businesses of the District of Columbia.”

Greer Johnson Gillis is a senior professional engineer and experienced administrator and organizational leader with over 20 years of experience in both the public and private sectors.

Commissioner Gillis served as the Director for the District of Columbia Department of General Services (DGS). In this role, Commissioner Gillis oversaw the agency responsible for managing capital improvement and construction programs for a variety of District government agencies, including DC Public Schools, as well as sustainability initiatives across the agency’s efforts specifically championing building energy performance standards for the government portfolio and implemented agreements to reduce greenhouse gases through efforts on installing green roofs and solar installations across government buildings.

Prior to her role at DGS, Commissioner Gillis served as the Deputy Director and Deputy Chief Engineer, respectively, for the District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT). In this role, she oversaw infrastructure projects pertaining to the Anacostia Waterfront Initiative (AWI) program, Stormwater Management Branch, Safety Standards and Quality Control Division, ITS Division, and Citywide Special Projects. She is a certified Professional Engineer in Washington, DC and Virginia and is a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.

The Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia is an independent agency established by Congress in 1913 to regulate electric, natural gas, and telecommunications companies in the District of Columbia.
