Norton Visits Washington VA Medical Center
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) visited the Washington, D.C. Veterans Medical Center today with Representative Gerry Connolly (D-VA), chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Subcommittee on Government Operations. Norton’s visit follows a string of Department of Veterans Affairs Office of the Inspector General reports detailing ongoing problems with the facility.
“The extensive briefing today by the leadership of the medical and hospital staff cleared up many issues that had been raised by the Inspector General and were deeply concerning to me and to other members of Congress,” Norton said. “With enough time to ask hard questions, I was able to see evidence of considerable improvement. I have discussed a possible hearing with Chairman Connolly because we need these improvements to be made public to help increase confidence in the facility in light of the recent press reports about the D.C. Veterans Medical Center.”
