(Washington, DC) – The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will continue the temporary closure of Canal Road NW between Reservoir Road and Foxhall Street NW for at least one week while emergency repairs to the roadway are completed.

On July 8, the District experienced heavy rains and flash flooding causing portions of Canal Road NW to be closed temporarily to allow floodwaters to recede. Additional structural damage from the flooding event created a hazard for residents and commuters causing the road to be closed again on July 10.

After a full inspection of the roadway, DDOT determined that emergency repairs are necessary and will take approximately one week to complete. Additional work may be necessary for the long-term stability of the roadway. DDOT will notify the community as new information on potential road closures is available.

Motorists should follow signed detours and stay alert while traveling in the work zone.
