WASHINGTON, DC — DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson highlighted the importance of today’s release of the District of Columbia’s Comprehensive Annual Report (CAFR).
“This year’s CAFR is fantastic news for the District,” Mendelson said. “We’re expecting $161.8 million to be put automatically into the affordable housing that so many residents desperately need, via the Housing Production Trust Fund.”
“At the same time, it is imperative that we add funds for schools. More must be done to ensure that our schools can improve student outcomes and we close the widening achievement gap.”
“Education is supposed to be the great equalizer. But we are doing our children a disservice by not focusing on aiding in their futures. Quality education is not solely about learning. It can be a solution to our social justice ills. I am committed to making education a top priority this upcoming budget season.”
The Executive is expected to release her annual budget on March 19th.
