LinkDistrict Links District Links: Clarification on Evans and public financing By Chris Kain and Cuneyt Dil On Feb 3, 2020 Last updated Feb 6, 2020 18 Share A clarification on this morning’s newsletter: Our introductory item today cited Jack Evans’ criticism of the idea of publicly financed campaigns in his responses to a 2016 questionnaire from the DC chapter of the Sierra Club. The item should also have noted, however, that Evans went on to vote in favor of the Fair Elections Act, which the council passed in early 2018 on two unanimous voice votes. So although he did criticize the use of tax dollars to pay for political campaigns, Evans — who’s now planning on using public financing as he runs for the seat he held for nearly 30 years until his recent resignation — didn’t end up opposing the bill that established the District’s program.
