Road Closures Begin for South Capitol Street Corridor Project

(Washington, DC) – The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close single lanes and shoulders on the following roadways to perform testing and 
pre-construction activities for the South Capitol Street Corridor Project.

The following single lane, ramp, and shoulder closures will be in place daily from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday, July 2, 2018, through Saturday, July 7, 2018, weather permitting.

No work impacting traffic operations will occur on Tuesday, July 3 through noonThursday, July 5 for the Fourth of July holiday.

·         South Capitol Street, SE/SW between South of Firth Sterling Avenue, SE to 
          the Frederick Douglas Memorial Bridge

·         South Capitol Street, SW southbound between the 
          Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge and Suitland Parkway, SE

·         Potomac Avenue, SW eastbound at South Capitol Street, SW

·         Anacostia Drive Access Road northbound between Howard Road, SE 
          and Anacostia Drive

·         Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, SE northbound at Howard Road, SE

·         I 295 southbound between Howard Road, SE and Firth Sterling Avenue, SE

·         Firth Sterling Avenue, SE between South Capitol Street, SE and 
          Suitland Parkway, SE

·         Howard Road, SE between Firth Sterling Avenue, SE and Suitland Parkway, SE

·         Suitland Parkway, SE between Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, SE and 
          South Capitol Street, SE

·         On Ramp to I-295 northbound from Firth Sterling Avenue, SE

·         Off Ramp to Howard Rd, SE from I-295 southbound

          The following single lane, ramp, and shoulder closures will be in place nightly 
          from 9:00 pm to 5.00 am, Sunday, July 1, 2018, through 
          Thursday, July 5, 2018, weather permitting. No work impacting traffic 
          operations will occur on Tuesday, July 3 through noon 
          Thursday, July 5 for the Fourth of July holiday.

·         I 295 southbound between Howard Road, SE and Firth Sterling Avenue, SE

·         South Capitol Street, SE/SW between South of Firth Sterling Avenue, SE 
          to Frederick Douglas Memorial Bridge

          The following ramps will be closed permanently effective on or about 
          Monday, July 02, 2018.

·         Ramp from Anacostia Drive southbound to South Capitol Street, SW

·         Ramp from South Capitol Street, SE northbound to Anacostia Drive

          These closures are required for pre-construction work associated with
          the South Capitol Street Corridor Project and the Frederick Douglass 
          Memorial Bridge Replacement which calls for the replacement of the
          68-year-old bridge and reconstruction of the Suitland Parkway/I-295 interchange.

           Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel in these areas, to

           anticipate moderate delays, and to be mindful of construction personnel.
