May 20, 2020
Washington DC– Today DC Vote released the first in its limited weekly series “Statehood Matters: At Home Edition.” The limited series kicks off with actress and activist Piper Perabo and continues with weekly guests such as author David Frum, and Representative Deb Haaland (NM-1).
DC Vote Executive Director, Bo Shuff, stated, “It is important to hear voices of Americans from around the country speaking about the importance of DC becoming the 51st state. Especially when the rights of DC residents are so glaringly under attack during this pandemic. I’m excited about these conversations with leaders from a broad cross-section of the nation.”
During the first episode, actress and advocate, Piper Perabo made clear the injustice faced by residents of Washington, DC. “When you realize there’s this whole group of people who don’t have the same rights as the rest of us, especially during a public health crisis like this. I think it really strikes home even harder.”
The first episode is live on DC Vote’s social media at facebook.com/dcvote and twitter.com/dc_vote. Previous podcast episodes are available at www.statehoodmatters.com.
About DC Vote: Founded in 1998, DC Vote is a national advocacy organization dedicated to strengthening and securing equality for all who call DC home. DC Vote has been working to end taxation without representation for the people of DC with locals and advocates around the country for more than two decades. We envision a fairer America where every one of the 700,000 DC residents has the right to participate in the democracy that allows for controlling your own budget, passing your own laws without congressional interference, and having equal representation in the US House of Representatives and the US Senate. #DC_Vote
