LinkLinksOpinion Maurice Jackson in The Post: A just response to the D.C. protests By Editor On Jun 18, 2020 Last updated Jun 18, 2020 39 Share “God don’t like ugly,” my grandma, Ma Pearl, a washwoman with a third-grade education who raised me, would often say. She’d ask me to read the Bible to her, and I wouldn’t understand the passage. “Ma, do you know what does this mean?” I would ask. “Course I do. It means, ‘God don’t like ugly.’” For her, doing “ugly” was to be hateful or bigoted, to lie, cheat and harm another person. In the past weeks, ugliness is all I have seen coming from the White House. The statements of the four living ex-presidents show that ugliness need not be the norm at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. 39 Share FacebookTwitterReddItWhatsAppEmailPrint
