LinkLinksOpinion Ronald L. Moten in The Post: Opinion: We must restore the community pipeline to the D.C. police department By Editor On Feb 5, 2021 Last updated Feb 5, 2021 11 Share For a more than two decades I’ve said that former D.C. police chief Charles H. Ramsey, now a frequent guest expert on talk shows, made one mistake that would affect people of color and the effectiveness of the police department in our community for some time to come. As reported in The Post in June 1998, Ramsey changed the educational criteria for new police officers even though previous chiefs with great honors didn’t. When he changed the requirement from a high school diploma or equivalency to a college degree, he effectively and severely reduced the number of new officers in the pipeline from the community. 11 Share FacebookTwitterReddItWhatsAppEmailPrint
