D.C. Residents Wanted to Fill Bus Operator and Other WMATA Job Openings

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 24, 2021 – In a collaborative effort to get more D.C. residents into well-paying jobs in local transportation and infrastructure, D.C. Councilmember Elissa Silverman (I-At-Large) and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) are jointly hosting a two-day virtual hiring event early next week. The online job fair will take place Monday, September 27, and Tuesday, September 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and feature information sessions about the various jobs available. WMATA has an immediate need to hire dozens of positions, including bus trainees, mechanics, and police officers.

“Any D.C. resident on the hunt for a good-paying job with benefits needs to block time out on their calendar Monday and Tuesday to check out this amazing opportunity,” said Silverman, who chairs the D.C. Council’s Committee on Labor and Workforce Development. “WMATA is one of our region’s major employers, and this is a hiring event that can lead not just to a job but to a career in infrastructure, one of our key industries.”

D.C. residents interested in attending the online hiring event should go to wmata.com/careers and click on “Metro Virtual Hiring Event” to register.  The event will feature one hour information sessions on each of the 10 different types of jobs Metro is currently hiring for. Job seekers can register for as many sessions as they want, and they will receive a link to the event after registering.

“WMATA hires 60 student bus operators every month, and you don’t need a commercial driver’s license to be considered,” said Silverman. “And that’s just one of 10 different positions being featured at the hiring event. I want to thank Metro for hosting this event with me, and helping provide our residents with jobs that lead to fulfilling careers.”

Residents can register for the event now through Tuesday, September 28.

    Good Day,

I signed up for the hiring event and received a registration confirmation via email. However, when I signed into the Teams meeting no one let me into the meeting or even acknowledged me. I logged off at 10:27. I would really like to know what happened. I was on time for the virtual event and was looking forward to hearing more information about the bus operator positions. My email address is trina.miles.collins@gmail.com and my phone number is 202-557-6038.

    Kind regards,

    Mrs. Trina C. Miles-Collins
