LinkElectionsLinksOpinion Washington Post Editorial Board: As the 2022 D.C. mayoral race takes shape, candidates must address old and new challenges By Editor On Oct 29, 2021 Last updated Oct 29, 2021 28 Share When D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) ran for reelection in 2018, she faced only nominal opposition. She breezed to victory with more than 75 percent of the vote in both the critical Democratic primary and the general election, becoming the District’s first two-term mayor since Anthony A. Williams (D) won in 2002. Circumstances, though, promise to be far different next year, when it is expected that Ms. Bowser will try to become the city’s first three-term mayor since Marion Barry (D) was elected in 1986 to a third term. Two members of the D.C. Council have recently announced their candidacies, and D.C. residents — as well as Ms. Bowser — should welcome the challenges. 28 Share FacebookTwitterReddItWhatsAppEmailPrint
