Who’s on the ballot for DC’s June 21 primary

By mid-May, the DC Board of Elections is scheduled to begin mailing out ballots for the June 21 primary. Here’s who made the ballot.

In addition to the government positions on the ballot of each of the District’s political parties, the Democratic Party’s contests include seats on the Democratic State Committee. The Republican Party has candidates running for six government offices, but none are contested races; the ballot includes several party leadership positions, but no candidates qualified to be listed on the ballot. In the DC Statehood Green Party and Libertarian Party, no candidates qualified for ballot access.

The board determined the ballot order via a lottery held April 29. The Board of Elections allows candidates to include nicknames on the ballot, and those are included below where we list the ballot order in contested races.

Independent candidates — including incumbent at-large DC Council member Elissa Silverman — aren’t on the primary ballot. They qualify for the general election by submitting enough valid signatures on their nominating petitions, a process that will kick off June 17. In November, they will face nominees of the District’s recognized political parties selected in the June primary. Seats on the State Board of Education and the city’s advisory neighborhood commissions are nonpartisan and do not appear on the June 21 ballot.

Below we’ve listed the candidates for government offices who will be on the 2022 primary ballot for each party, along with links to available campaign websites and Twitter accounts for each candidate. For incumbents who are seeking another term, our listing also includes their non-campaign websites and Twitter accounts.
