(WASHINGTON, D.C.) December 19, 2019 — The District of Columbia Hospital Association (DCHA), in partnership with member hospitals, hosted its first annual Warm the Sole Sock Drive this season. Participating DC hospitals rallied together as community partners and donated more than 4,500 pairs of socks (see pictures).
The socks were distributed to Miriam’s Kitchen, Covenant House, Catholic Charities, and CCNV; all located within the District. All organizations were grateful for the support, especially since socks were one of their high priority needs.
“We were overwhelmed with the number of socks that were donated by our hospitals. Everyone worked very hard in making sure that we procured enough socks to be given to our local organizations to help thousands of people in need. I also want to recognize the incredible staff at St. Elizabeths Hospital, who alone, donated more than 1,700 pairs of socks. We look forward to making this a holiday tradition,” said DCHA President and CEO, Jacqueline D. Bowens.
Participating hospitals: BridgePoint Hospital Capitol Hill, BridgePoint Hospital National Harbor, The George Washington University Hospital, Howard University Hospital, MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital, Psychiatric Institute of Washington, St. Elizabeths Hospital, Sibley Memorial Hospital and United Medical Center.
The District of Columbia Hospital Association is the unifying voice for hospitals and health systems in the District of Columbia and works to advance health policy to strengthen the District’s world-class health care system to ensure that it is equitable and accessible to all.
