JOIN COUNCILMEMBER VINCENT C. GRAY AT THE UPCOMING

OVERSIGHT ROUNDTABLE ON POLICING IN WARDS 7 & 8

Washington, D.C. –  On Thursday, July 12, 2018, the Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety will hold a public oversight roundtable to hear from members of the community on policing and public safety concerns in Wards 7 and 8.  The morning portion of the roundtable will take place at the John A. Wilson Building located at 1350 Pennsylvania Ave., NW in Room 412 at 9:30 am.  The evening segment will take place at the Deanwood Recreation Center, 1350 49th St., N.E., at 5 pm.

“I appreciate Chairman Allen for holding this oversight hearing in light of the recent incidents in Ward 7, particularly in the Deanwood neighborhood. It is my hope that Chief Newsham and other government witnesses will be available for both segments of the hearing,” said Councilmember Gray.  “In fact,” said Gray “it would be an incomplete hearing without Chief Newsham available at both the morning and evening sessions.”

Recognizing that most residents will be at work during the morning portion of the roundtable, Councilmember Gray wants to hear from those who may be unable to attend.  And, he wants the Chief to hear from residents as well.

“What’s on your mind Ward 7? What are some of the questions you would like me to ask on your behalf as it relates to policing in Ward 7?” said Gray.  Send your questions to Terrance Norflis, Legislative Director, at tnorflis@dccouncil.us.  You can also call our office at (202) 724 – 8068 with your questions and concerns.”

In light of recent incidents on and around Sheriff Road, it is imperative that residents’ voices be heard, especially by law enforcement officials.

Residents can sign-up to testify by calling the Judiciary Committee at (202) 724-7808 or email judiciary@dccouncil.us.  The hearing notice can be viewed by clicking here.
